A Chain of Solidarity: How R3VOLVE HAITI, Foundation Rapino, and ANC Fought Back Against Despair
In a world replete with grim headlines, a glimmer of hope has emerged from Haiti, where communities torn apart by gang violence are witnessing an awe-inspiring demonstration of human resilience and compassion. At the forefront of this valiant effort are three organizations: R3VOLVE HAITI, led by the Rapino Foundation; ANC, founded by Father Jean Occide, known as Father Cico; and Foundation Rapino. Their extraordinary collaborative endeavor serves as a stark contrast to the inhumanity faced by the Haitian populace.
A Masterful Show of Human Spirit
In the first week of October 2023, volunteers and staff from these organizations toiled to prepare over 520 essential kits containing rice, peas, spaghetti, oil, and canned salmon. Echoing the sentiments of Martin Luther King Jr., who famously said, "Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that," the atmosphere was filled with joy as volunteers sang and danced while assembling the kits.
Tuesday Transformation
Tuesday was reserved for cleaning the distribution space and setting the stage. The energy in the air was palpable; these organizations were about to pull off the equivalent of landing a man on the moon for these beleaguered communities. The next day’s event would set a precedent for grassroots aid initiatives and serve as a stepping stone for future collaborations.
The Dawn of Change
Wednesday dawned, and 550 attendees arrived as early as 6 a.m. With tickets handed out to maintain order, the program started on a soulful note as Mr. Gesner led the crowd in singing the third verse of the Dessalinienne—the Haitian national anthem—symbolizing a new dawn for the country.
The Circle of Strength
Father Cico's heartwarming speech was a tipping point in the program, emphasizing community resilience. Taking inspiration from the words of Winston Churchill, who said, "Success is not final, failure is not fatal: It is the courage to continue that counts," Father Cico reminded the audience that their resilience and respect would carry them through the darkness.
A Day in History
The day ended with the distribution of kits and a thousand gourdes per person. It was more than a material transaction—it was the birth of a community dedicated to mutual support and survival.
