Centre de Formation Classique de Pangnol
February 2016, the Rapino Foundation partnered with Fondation Dr. Louis G. Lamothe, the former Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe's charitable foundation. His foundation's missio is to create a Smart Village, an off-grid community that uses innovative technology to attain full employment, quality health and education standards. After consulting with local partners and actors, Fondation Dr. Louis G. Lamothe signed a memorandum with the community of Nan Panyol, a small agrarian community tucked in the mountains of Kenscoff, Haiti to make its mission into a reality.
The Rapino Foundation's contribution to the project is reconstructing the community school, Centre de Formation Classique de Pangnol, and elevating the quality of education. As of now, we have conducted a two-week intensive teacher training program to improve the teachers' pedagogical skills and are starting a more rigorous long-term training February 7th 2017.
Despite political turmoil, the road conditions leading to the village and Hurricane Matthew, the Rapino Foundation celebrated this February 1st the groundbreaking of the School. the necessary permits and geological studies to proceed with construction.
Why Education?
Haitian children face multiple boundaries to receive a decent education.

More than 80% of primary schools in Haiti are private, while 75% of the population lives on $2 a day.

The education system relies on French as the primarily language of instruction while 100% of the population speaks Haitian Creole. Meanwhile, poling agencies speculate that only 10% of the population speaks French fluently.

Undoubtedly the children who can afford to make it into a classroom do not learn much, the typical third grader reads 23 words per minute which is 12 words less per minute than the minimum about for comprehension.

Until recently, the government did not offer a credentials or set minimum education requirements for teachers. According to different studies only 50% of all teachers in Haiti have higher than primary school education.
